Look at these delicious gluten free cakes! This week I dropped by the Edinburgh Farmer’s Market to see what gluten free goodies I could find. One stand, from the fabulous people at Agnes Bakes Cakes had an incredible display of entirely gluten free cakes.
The highlight of the visit was that we could pick up a taster piece of cake and not worry about contamination – even more of a highlight was that it was totally delicious.
Agnes bakes from her home in Strathaven and she and her husband visit farmers’ markets all over the central belt, selling these delicious cakes and treats. If you check out the website, you’ll see that they also make celebration cakes – ideal for a children’s birthday party or special occasion. These can be delivered or collected (they’ll even meet you halfway if it’s easier) and they are moist and beautifully made.
The cakes we tried were: a very moist and tasty apricot cake which was zingy and not too sweet; a fabulous fresh and zesty mango cheesecake; a tall sugar-sprinkled baby victoria sponge; and a great Scottish classic snow cake made with coconut and jam. These are good cakes so it’s worth checking out when they’ll next be at the farmers’ market so you can go along and try them out. They told me they were aiming for once a month – so put it in your diary!
They also have some fantastic looking sausage rolls, fruit cake, mincemeat slice and a great lime and coconut cake.
