GLUTEN FREE FISH AND CHIPS
If you want to try the great British favourite of fish & chips, but you need to know they are gluten free, here are some places around town that do them with a separate fryer.

I have not tried them all, but each one has come recommended by someone who has eaten there safely.  If you have eaten anywhere else you’d recommend, just let me know via the contacts page or by email info@glutenfreeedinburgh.com.

City Restaurant – 35 Nicolson St, Edinburgh EH8 9BE
This cafe is based in Newington, but is an easy bus ride from the city centre

The Chip Inn – 234 Oxgangs Terrace, Edinburgh EH13 9BQ
This classic “chippy” is quite far out of town, so is probably ideal for residents rather than tourists.

Scran & Scallie and Southside Scran
Check out my reviews: Scran & Scallie / Southside Scran for details of how to find these lovely, upmarket brasseries.  They each to F&C and also lots of other brilliant gluten free food, with excellent service thrown in!  One is in Stockbridge and the other in Bruntsfield

St Andrews – 280-284 Portobello High St, Edinburgh EH15 2AT
Based in the seaside suburb of Portobello, where better to enjoy your fish and chips sitting by the beach?  This is a nice area and a visit to the seaside is always great!

Bertie’s Fish & Chips – 9 Victoria St, Edinburgh EH1 2HE
This new restaurant is on Victoria Street in the heart of the Old Town.  It is probably the best option if you are staying in town as a visitor and want to try a classic fish & chips.  This big restaurant is an actual fish & chip restaurant, so your glutenn-eating friends can enjoy it too!

A Room in Leith – 1A Dock Pl, Edinburgh EH6 6LU
This nice wee restaurant serves good quality food and I am reliably informed that they often have fish & chips on the menu.  Reports gratefully received.

Safari Lounge – 21 Cadzow Place, Edinburgh EH7 5SN
Check out my review of this great pub which is packed full of GF beer and GF food!  They serve some really innovative bar snacks and meals and the fish & chips were delicious.

The Fishmarket Newhaven – 23A Pier Pl, Edinburgh EH6 4LP
Thanks to a very kind report from an Instagrammer, I am told that the Fishmarket has a separate fryer for GF and that the fish & chips are excellent!  Definitely worth a try – that corner of Newhaven Harbour makes me feel I am on holiday.

FISH, Marchmont Road – 98 Marchmont Road, EH9 1HR
This newish Fish & chip shop is serving up the lightest and most delicious GF options you will find!  Available to deliver or collect. FISH Edinburgh

St Andrew’s Restaurant and Takeaway – Portobello High Street
Fish and Chips by the sea – gorgeous!  Pick up GF treats including F&C, pizza or pasta and enjoy by the beach – or dine in for friendly service St Andrews

Anstruther Fish Bar – 42-44 Shore Street, Anstruther, Fife, KY10 3AQ
This pretty famous fish and chip shop over the water in Fife, also serves GF items and often includes the full works on its menu.  They even run fully gluten free evenings sometimes.  Check ahead if you are heading out of the city.
