Hamilton’s Bar & Kitchen in Stockbridge is great for gluten free and is also a lively and friendly place to visit. A sister to the fabulous Blackbird and Treacle, these venues combine cool bars with great food.
I dropped by for lunch and was impressed by the choices on the menu. Clearly marked and also varied, there is a good range of GF. Soup, sandwiches, salads and burgers (no bun) are all on offer. I enjoyed a salad of beetroot and goats cheese, which was big on flavour and colour – though could possibly have been a little bigger given it was a main course – I liked it so much I wanted more!
My fellow diner had a good looking poached egg with (wheat-laden) sourdough and avocado, which looked like a good protein rich option. There was gluten free bread on offer which, when I checked, was Genius. This isn’t my favourite and would be a distress purchase for me, though if you like it, you can have all the delicious looking sandwiches made with it.
The service is super friendly and like Treacle and Blackbird, Hamilton’s is a good option for a night of booze when you want to enjoy some food too, but without contamination. It is also a good option for breakfast, opening at 9 am.
The decor is good, with shades of Lichtenstein. At lunchtime I was really tempted by the look of the huge leather sofas around the bar – though if I dropped into one of those on a weekday, I would never go back to work!
I loved Treacle and I love Hamilton’s – next stop must be the Blackbird in Bruntsfield….
