Eating good quality gluten free food, mainly in Edinburgh

Colonnades Signet Library

When you eat at the Colonnades, you know it is going to be good. The gluten free afternoon tea had been so sensational, I decided to give lunch a go this week. As the Edinburgh festivals start this week, the Signet Library is now open into the evenings and is serving the old Pommery Champagne Bar favourites: whole lobster, burgers and fantastic sharing platters plus, of course, lots of fizz.

best gluten free afternoon tea edinburghBeing a fan of caeser salad I tried the Chicken Caeser Burger, bun-less, of course. Served on a large plate with a bundle of tasty savoy cabbage coleslaw, plus a little bucket of potato wedges, the chicken burger came wrapped in lettuce. It was topped with parmesan and caeser salad dressing and was moist and delicious. It honestly did not need the bun and I thought it made a fantastic and relatively healthy, gluten free, lunch which was not too filling.

Naturally, this left room for champagne and cake.

The Pommery Champagne is very good and the bright blue buckets look lovely reflected in the glass tables. I could get used to this! For my pudding I was brought a tiny gluten free milles feuille, filled with cream and a strawberry, with a swirl of strawberry jus on the side. It was perfect and very beautiful. The Colonnades serves the best gluten free afternoon tea in Edinburgh, and the milles feuilles for me are a highlight, so to try the crispy light pastry again, was a gluten free afternoon tea edinburgh 2

The Signet Library sits at the heart of the festival scene and is a wonderful place to hide from the noises outside while enjoying really fine food and fizz. It is currently very deservedly at number 1 on TripAdvisor and highly recommended for an afternoon tea, light lunch or evening with friends.
