We’ve all experienced the panic of being faced with a sharing platter! Wth high risk of cross contamination, sharing is often off the menu for coeliacs. However, if you love a sharing platter of superb cheese and meat with a glass of wine and guaranteed gluten free, then Clark and Lake is the place!
Just out of the city centre in Bruntsfield, Clark and Lake is a cross between a restaurant and a wine bar – billed as a charcuterie & bar. With excellent wine to choose by the glass or bottle, I had some delicious Albarino. To go with it I SHARED a platter with a gluten eating friend. The really good and attentive staff assured me that the food boards are each covered with paper onto which the food is placed and that all care is taken. My gluten eating friend was brought a bowl of fab looking breads, kept separate in a bowl. I was given a bowl of GF crackers and the food was all assured as gluten free.
However, the key point of Clark and Lake is the quality of the food – it is just totally excellent. To start we had a line of delicious fresh anchovies with a spicy garnish of tabasco – really tasty, punchy and guaranteed to wake you up. Then our superb sharing platter included: cornish chorizo; stunning serrano ham; manchego; taleggio; and some little side piles of olives, pickled vegetables, rocket and a small curl of flowery tasting membrillo. You can create your own platter or opt for a Spanish, Italian or British one. There are also some delicious looking fried cauliflower (not for GF sadly!), meatballs and other little delights such as raclette cheese on potatoes…. I also need to go back to test the gorgonzola and the delicious sounding pates.
So seek out Clark and Lake for some seriously high quality, well produced tapas-style eating, great wines and happy vibe. It’s so good to have quality, contamination free sharing!
