A trip just out of town this weekend took us to enjoy a gluten free brunch in South Queensferry at Scotts Bar & Restaurant in Port Edgar.
This is a popular place! Having arrived early on a Saturday morning with no reservation, we found a table, but within half an hour the place was filling up fast. So I strongly advise you book – particularly in current times.
There is an extensive breakfast/brunch menu including eggs, bacon, full breakfasts and things like granola and fruit. They are very GF aware and so I was able to have a seriously delicious Eggs Benedict with streaky bacon – all served on a gluten free muffin (separately toasted). It was a brilliant breakfast – with orange juice, some crisp water and a really good black coffee, I was set up for the day.
I should say that the service is impeccable. We had the most friendly, efficient, and amusing waiting staff, which really enhanced our visit.
I doubt the pancakes are ok, but the staff are clued up and although the menu isn’t marked up, they knew what I could have and there seemed to be a good choice. While I can’t comment on the lunch menu, which looks quite gluten-focused, there is going to be enough choice to put Scotts on your list for a brunch date. The main menu is quite gluten-focused by the look of it, though my guess is you will do ok, though may be on limited choices (which is definitely the case everywhere at the moment). Their Christmas menu looks good and has quite a few GF choices marked up including most of the main courses – so this could be a good place for a celebration!
We followed our breakfast with a beautiful still and sunny late November walk along the estuary, looking across to Fife. It was a treat of a day and I highly recommend this for a pick me up which is still legitimate!
