Walkers is probably the best known shortbread brand in Scotland and is loved the world over. It is good to hear that the company is now producing gluten free shortbread in three flavours: chocolate chip; lemon and ginger; and what can only be called plain, though of course it is butter really.
We like shortbread in the Gluten Free Edinburgh household and are always thrilled to be given testers. These well packaged shortbreads should do well in the tourist market and did not last long here either.
The lemon and ginger has the best flavour and was less crumbly than the other two, so possibly more robust to take if travelling. The other flavours were also good and the plain had a good distinctive Walker’s flavour too.
As Christmas approaches, shortbread is a popular choice as a present or for afternoon tea, so it is worth having some in for treats. They stand up well against many other gluten free biscuit brands and while I like to make my own, I would be happy to be offered these as an alternative.
Within Scotland the Walkers gluten free shortbread is available in some supermarkets and shops such as Margiotta in Edinburgh and Tesco. Also available to order online from suppliers such as Ocado and Amazon – so you should be able to source them easily.
As the nights draw in, it’s a good time for a cup of tea and a tasty biccie!
