Eating good quality gluten free food, mainly in Edinburgh

Promise Gluten Free Bread

Sainsburys has started stocking a brand of gluten free bread called Promise.  Produced in Ireland and aiming to be natural and healthy, Promise offers some different options too.   You can find out about the products here:

We tried the Rosemary & Olive Oil Sourdough loaf.  This is a bake at home product, so needs 15 minutes in a hot oven and then half hour sit (if you can resist!) before cutting.  The flavour of the rosemary and olive oil is good and strong and probably covers that inevitable gluten free bread flavour we are all so used to.

The bread is bouncy and light and has a proper crust on it.  I suspect you need to eat it fresh, but with flavours and lightness like this, that isn’t going to be a problem!  It toasted nicely too – though the big test with any GF bread is how it feels and tastes without toasting and this is good.  The ingredients look natural too – it’s not packed full of preservatives and E numbers.

We also taste tested some brown seeded rolls, which did need toasting, so aren’t going to cut it in the bottom of a rucksack on a walk, but overall we give these products the thumbs up – particularly the delicious sourdough!
