Things were really looking up for gluten free eaters in Sainsbury’s this week! Not only is there a new, quality focused and clear Free From range with nice packaging, but the Pizza Express gluten free pizzas were in stock.
Found in the chilled pizza aisle alongside their gluten-loaded brothers, the gluten free home cook option is very good. Sensibly, the manufacturers have gone for a margherita pizza, so you can go to town with additional toppings. I tried it plain and just added a little fresh basil after cooking, but another time I would add anchovies, olives and some basil to make it really delicious.
My gluten-loving, pizza-eating student daughter was the tester and she declared it as good as any other home cook pizza. My thinking was this was actually better than some of the slightly tougher gluten free pizzas I have had in the Pizza Express restaurants and I was well pleased with it.
The choices for gluten free eating are really increasing all the time at the moment, with new Edinburgh cafes opening and the main supermarkets expanding their ranges. Long may it last.
