After quite a lot of searching and quite a few disappointments, I have finally found Edinburgh’s best gluten free bread. This little loaf from the Archipelago Bakery just opened on Dundas Street is terrific. It has a lovely spring to it, it toasts beautifully, there is no grittiness and it tastes delicious. Most importantly, it TASTES and FEELS like real bread – and clearly it will not be packed with preservatives and E numbers like the supermarket brands.
This bakery is really worth checking out if you are after quality gluten free bread and cakes in Edinburgh. It is not a gluten free bakery, but a very high quality artisan, organic producer of what looks like very beautiful bread. You can sit in or takeaway and it is open Monday – Saturday and there is a good choice of cakes and light lunches. I also tried the Lemon Polenta Cake, which is very tasty too, but I am most happy with the bread!
If you want to order one of these little beauties, you have to ring in advance – check out the number on website. However, if you are passing, or even making a special detour, it is worth it.
