In the New Town I often struggle to find good gluten free choices. I was pleased to notice some Instagram posts from Grounds of Stockbridge recently, showing a range of gluten free choices. So I nipped along to check it out – all in the interests of research.
This tiny little shop is up some stairs and you could almost miss it, but make sure you don’t! The daily soups are GF and there are always bread and cake options. For somewhere with such a tiny kitchen too they are really careful. I was given the tastiest EVER toastie: pesto, tomato and mozzarella, all toasted within greaseproof paper and carefully bagged up.
As I was heading back to the office I also took a couple of gluten free cakes for us to test. There was a seasonal and really unusually flavoured pumpkin loaf with delicious cream cheese icing, plus I also chose a Sienese almond cake, which was like a macaroon. It was chewy in the middle and just amazing. I am now on the hunt for the recipe, though it would be easy enough to go back and buy more ….
The other cake options included a good looking banana and nutella loaf too. So there is plenty of choice.
The service was super-friendly and there are seats inside, so you can eat in or takeaway. The coffee smelt so good that next time I will sneak along to eat in – I really liked it there and it’s certainly worth seeking out. They even sell cards and paintings – bonus!
