Eating good quality gluten free food, mainly in Edinburgh

Gluten free breakfast

When visiting Edinburgh, finding a good breakfast is essential. There are plenty of places in the city to find a good gluten free option. Here are some of my favourites:

Loudons

Loudons makes its own gluten free bread and sells it to takeaway too. The menu options for GF breakfast are pretty extensive and it is a good choice. Scrambled eggs on toast, bacon, the full works, eggs benedict. Opens 8 am

Urban Angel

Urban Angel is only suffering from one thing at the moment: popularity! Sometimes it gets really rammed at breakfast time because the food is so good. It is worth a try though, as the choices are brilliant and the place really gets gluten free eating. Poached eggs, smoked mackerel with kale, Arbroath smokies and gluten free bread from the fab Archipelago Bakery. Opens 8 am during the week and 9 am at weekends.

I reviewed morning coffee and cake here.

Hula Juice Bar

In the Grassmarket, Hula Juice Bar is a great location for good quality healthy eating. They do amazing smoothies that are super healthy. Gluten free Granola with yoghurt and fruit is a brilliant way to kick-start your day. Opens 8 am. Review here

The Edinburgh Larder

A lovely café for breakfast, but also lunch, the Edinburgh Larder does a good hearty breakfast with healthy options. They also have gluten free options, so you are in good company here. Opens 8 am

Also try:

Contini Cannonball – I have not been here for breakfast and the menu looks pretty gluten-laden with porridge etc, but it is hard to have a bad meal in a Contini restaurant ….

Union of Genius – Forrest Road – NEW gluten free granola now served. Opens 8.30 am
