Artisan Cheesecakes in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh has already had rave reviews. How fantastic to go in this weekend and have a choice of gluten free cheesecakes…
The shop has a very cute exterior and is pretty cute inside too, with bunting, painted furniture and friendly staff. There is a wee bit of room for eating in and they serve coffee and teas with your slice of cheesecake on mismatched old china.
Also terrific is that if you order takeaway, your slice is packed neatly into a wedge shaped plastic container, making transportation easy. (the good news for Edinburgh residents is that the container is recyclable in your green bin!). I tested the two gluten free cheesecakes on offer this weekend: Mixed Berries and White Aero.
The Mixed Berry had a fresh lemony cheese that was fluffy and not too sweet. The fresh fruit and coulis on the top added an almost Raspberry Ripple like flavour to it and the slice was HUGE – we shared it between three of us.
The White Aero was, not surprisingly, much sweeter as it had plenty of chocolate stirred through it. While I found this one a bit too sweet, my teenage son loved it and finished pretty much the whole slice himself.
The bases are made with gluten free digestives and it would appear they can also make your slice of cheesecake into an ice cream style smoothy! Phew, I might pop!
My only criticism of Artisan Cheesecakes is that it is two doors along from my other favourite gluten free quality treat provider: Cuckoo’s Bakery. Now I am really spoilt for choice!
